African Swine Fever

African Swine Fever (ASF) is a hemorrhagic fever endemic to wild boars in central Africa, caused by African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV). In the adult members of these wild populations, the effects of ASF range from mild to entirely asymptomatic. In domestic pigs and wild boars from other regions, however, it’s an entirely more sinister disease, with no available treatment or vaccine. Symptoms, such as fever and anorexia, begin to emerge 4 days after infection. At 7 to 10 days post-infection, mortality may be as high as 100%.
